About the Author
Hello, I'm Doug Turner.
I started writing Ayleth in September 2016. I based the characters and world on a video game I once tried to make with a friend. Ayleth Branwen was originally a less compelling chracter, had black rather than silver hair, and was just a young woman out looking for adventure without realistic motives. Over the years, I thought about Ayleth often, and tried to write her story. For some reason, it just never clicked for me. That is until September of 2016, when I finally received treatment for the severe anxiety I'd been suffering from since I got hit on the head in a car wreck when I was fifteen. Effective medication on board, I finally found my voice and wrote the entire novel in less than six months. It's being edited now, but that's a long process. I have released a short story, and a few more are on their way.
Say, Doug, what else do you like to do?
I'm glad you asked. I like to draw, read and hoard books, workout, and ah yes! I'm a pretty good furniture maker. In fact, that's what I do for a living. If you like, you can check out my site here: www.TurnerCustomFurniture.com.
Here are some photos of pieces I've designed and built.
Swell beans, but surely you have other interests!
I do. I like taking pictures of things. Here's a photo I took of my girlfriend floating in a cemetery. No, it's not sorcery. Just Photoshop. The other is of a melee at Fool's War 2017.
I need more!
Thanks for your enthusiasm. I love animals, and have three cats. Here's my cat Gimli (yes, the dwarf). See how he gets a bigger photo than my girlfriend? We walk around my big yard in Rex, GA, just south of Atlanta a few times a day.
More! Or I will fetch my blunderbuss.
I think people are getting bored. Ok, just a bit. I like 3d modeling, especially for game development. Here's a castle gatehouse I created. It's actually the Ravenswood Castle gatehouse (in my mind).
I don't care if people are getting bored.
As it happens, I do care about people. I'm a staunch defender of civil, animal and human rights and will stand up to anyone, anytime, if I witness closed minded people having a go at any person or animal. I like to listen to haunted house music and fantasy game and movie soundtracks. I love Tolkein, Joe Abercrombe, John Gwynn and Brandon Sanderson among many others. I've never even tried to play an accordion, and have no immediate plans to do so. If you'd like to know more, I'll question your sanity but answer any questions you might have.
